Treatment Options Using Cosmetic Laser Equipment

Cosmetic laser equipment has turned the cosmetic industry on its head. The range and capabilities of these devices makes it possible to safely carry out a varietyof cosmetic treatments. This includes skin rejuvenation, body contouring, tattoo removal, hair removal, and much more. Lasers make it possible to get better results, faster, leaving both physicians and patients satisfied. This article takes a look some of the top cosmetic treatments, and the lasers that make them happen.

Skin Rejuvenation: These days, just about everyone is concerned about aging, and for that reason, the demand for age-defying laser solutions is on the rise. Fractional laser resurfacing is one of the newer skin rejuvenation techniques that use state-of-the-art cosmetic laser equipment.

The Pixel CO2 fractional laser, is a high powered carbon dioxide laser that rejuvenates and tightens the skin. CO2 lasers have traditionally been used for skin resurfacing, and this particular laser is among the most advanced. There is little pain associated with the procedure, and minimal downtime, which makes it a very attractive skin rejuvenation option.

Hair Removal: Cosmetic laser equipment has also completely revolutionized hair removal. Using lasers like the Soprano XLi from Alma Lasers, physicians are able to provide their patients with permanent hair removal.

The Soprano XLi is not only a very effective device, but it is also supremely comfortable. Innovative features such as its super hair removal (SHR) component and IN-Motion technology, ensure patient comfort, and also speed up treatment time, so that patients can get hair removal done faster.

Body Contouring: This is another often requested cosmetic procedure that utilizes cutting edge cosmetic laser equipment. Body contouring involves the tightening of the skin, as well as the removal of areas of stubborn fat and cellulite.

The Accent XL laser is able to blast away cellulite using dual-laser technology. The radio frequency energy works on the dermal layer of the skin, to get rid of fat. As it does so it stimulates the skin cells, and encourages collagen production, which eventually leads to tighter skin. In addition, the device improves the surface texture of the skin by liquefying fatty tissue. This soon drains away and is then passed from the body.

Skin issues such as acne can also be effectively treated with cosmetic laser equipment. Alma Lasers has developed the Harmony XL AFT laser that fights acne, and similar conditions. Advanced fluorescence technologyor AFT is an improved version of the more familiar intense pulse light or IPL. It is able to better utilize the light energy, in order to achieve clearer, smoother skin.

Making Your Choice Among Cosmetic Surgeons

One of the most important decisions you will ever make is deciding among the many cosmetic surgeons in your area. You want to make sure that you are as comfortable as possible with your final choice so that you can be confident you’ll be happy with the results. Here are some considerations to keep in mind before you choose.

It is critical that you do an extensive amount of research, not only regarding the type of procedure that you want but also the doctor who will perform it. You need to look at his or her training, education, experience, and competence. Also, it is important that you find out whether or not the doctor you are considering has had any sort of claims filed against him or her by patients who have undergone the same procedure that you will have. Look closely at any available before-and-after pictures of previous patients and make sure you are comfortable with the doctor’s previous results. Speak to those patients if you can.

The Types of Doctors Who Become Cosmetic Surgeons
There has been a substantial rise in the number of people who have chosen to have plastic surgery performed in recent years. As a result, there are more cosmetic surgeons in the field. There is a very competitive pool of available doctors, so you want to make sure that you make your choice based on professionalism and ability, not any sort of hard sales tactics you may experience.

How to Evaluate Cosmetic Surgeons
If one of the doctors you are considering practices in a well-established hospital with a strong reputation, that is obviously a plus. These types of facilities evaluate doctors based on the competence, training, experience, and education just like you should. If a doctor is allowed to practice in that hospital, that is a good sign that he or she has met the criteria that you should be looking for.

However, there are still many, many questions that you should ask before choosing a doctor, even if he or she practices in a facility that has a sterling reputation. Find out how long the doctor has performed the specific procedure that you will have, and ask where he or she received training in that procedure. Make sure you know what type of continuing education the doctor has pursued and how much experience he or she possesses.

You’ll also want to know how many patients have had to return for corrections or revisions, and get detailed information regarding the risks and possible complications of the procedure you are having. All of the doctors you are considering should have an ample number of before-and-after pictures for you to see. The more pictures available, the more experience that doctor will have.

It may seem like a lot of effort is required to make your best possible choice among cosmetic surgeons, but the work you put in now can help you enjoy long-term benefits.

Low Cost Cosmetic Surgery Abroad

Today, cosmetic surgery has been widely used as a route to beautify, enhance and rejuvenate one’s appearance. However, cosmetic procedure cost is exceptionally high in several parts of the world. The exorbitant cost of beautification in countries like US, UK and Canada are driving some patients to seek affordable plastic surgery abroad.

Cosmetic Surgery Cost

Demand for cosmetic surgery continues to grow in popularity around the world. Today, not just the rich class community and celebrities, even people from well-to-do middle class families are increasingly going under the knife to correct or beautify their looks.

Since the surgical beautification carries a hefty price tag, it becomes nearly impossible for an average individual to even think of this treatment. Therefore, a number of overseas patients, especially from wealthy countries, are heading to low-income countries to obtain affordable cosmetic procedures.

Be it surgical procedures such as Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), Breast enlargement (breast augmentation or boob job), Mastopexy (breast lift), Buttock augmentation, Nose job (rhinoplasty), Facelift (rhytidectomy), Liposuction (suction-assisted lipectomy), Chin augmentation and Hair transplantation or non-surgical methods like Botox and laser hair removal, all aesthetic plastic surgery procedures are available at fairly less prices in developing countries.

Seek Affordable Cosmetic Surgery Abroad

If you are considering any kind of surgical beauty treatment, but the cost is totally out of your budget then you can seek affordable plastic surgery options in foreign countries.

Due to fairly less prices of surgical treatments in the developing nations, every year, millions of medical tourists from different countries across the world flock to low-income countries like India, Belgium, Thailand, Costa Rica and Mexico to avail low-cost, high quality beauty enhancement procedures.

These countries are offering a wide-variety of cosmetic procedures of the highest quality at a price that’s way lower than the cost of these treatments in the US.

Due to the medical tourism boom in the developing countries, a number of hospitals and surgery centers have sprung up in these countries, offering substantial discounts to international patients, mainly due to the low cost of living and lower labor wages in those countries.

The certified surgeons at accredited hospitals there are offering excellent-quality services and brilliant results for a fraction of the cost, without sacrificing the quality.

Using one or more of the cosmetic procedures mentioned above, combined with the most recent available technology, and surgical instruments, a cosmetic surgeon in any medical tourism destination like India and Mexico can transform your misshapen body part to give you a stunning look.

However, the cost of plastic/cosmetic surgery may vary from country to country, and from state to state, depending on the choice of surgeon, patient’s condition, location and type of surgery.

So, if you are looking for cosmetic surgery to achieve that perfect look without spending a fortune, traveling to another neighboring country can cut your surgical budget by thousands. All you need to do is to look for the right, most dependable place to get your beautification surgery done abroad.

How Air-conditioning Can Affect Your Lips

Air-conditioning

Air-conditioning in buildings can create an atmospheric condition causing facial lips to be dry. Lack of moisture in the air causes the skin to become cracked or flaky. Air-conditioning is designed to cool air in buildings when outdoor temperatures are high. The process of cooling the air reduces humidity. Humidity is moisture in the air. Sometimes air-conditioning reduces the moisture so much that individuals feel thirsty and dehydrated. Individuals spending most of their time in air-conditioned buildings may develop chapped lips.

What are Chapped Lips?

Most individuals have experienced cracked or dry lips. The skin on facial lips may peel or develop small cracks. The cracks may be deep enough to cause bleeding. Facial lips can become inflamed while appearing swollen and red. Individuals may experience pain from a burning sensation of dry facial lips. Severe chapped lips can lead to chronic infections of the skin. Occasionally, other regions of the face can also develop inflammation from dry facial lips.

Chronic Conditions

A common complication of chapped lips is angular cheilitis. This condition can be caused by bacteria or fungus entering the fissures of dry facial lips. It primarily affects the corners of the mouth. The skin located around the corners of the mouth will become inflamed. Dry red patches of skin will develop. This painful condition often causes a chronic itchiness. The condition can spread to the chin, cheeks and nose. Individuals may constantly lick their facial lips to relieve the itchiness and pain. Licking the lips causes more inflammation because it removes the natural oil.

Symptoms of Chapped Lips

The lips of the face are usually coated with natural oil. The natural oil is produced by oil glands. This oils purpose is to protect facial lips from becoming dry. Occasionally, the facial lips do not produce enough oil to prevent dryness. In addition, individuals may lick their lips too much causing the protective oil layer to be removed. The digestive enzymes in saliva can cause lips to become drier. The use of cosmetics, soaps or other products can also reduce the amount of oil produced by the glands. Lip balms can coat the skin surface to assist in preventing moisture loss.

Caring for Facial Lips

Taking proper care of skin is also important during the hot summer. Air-conditioning can remove moisture from an office or home. Keeping your body properly hydrated is imperative. Drink adequate amounts of water each day. Consume a healthy diet of fruits, vegetables, grains, dairy products and protein. It is possible to add moisture to the air of buildings by using a humidifier. A humidifier is a machine that releases moisture droplets into the air. This helps to prevent chapped facial lips.

How To Heal Chapped Lips Corners – Methods To Cure Angular Cheilitis

If you would like to know how to heal chapped lips corners, a better understanding of what causes this condition will put you in a better position to make informed treatment choices.

If you have had this condition for longer than a day or so, it is very likely to be a condition called angular cheilitis. This is a common condition caused by an overgrowth in the bacteria which naturally resides on our lips. In normal circumstances, this is completely harmless and causes no symptoms whatsoever.

Why the bacteria should cause problems in some people and not others is not always known. One cause can be a weakened immune system, whereby the body’s ability to fight off bacteria is impaired. In others, ill-fitting dentures can cause improper closing of the mouth which in turn can cause pockets of skin to form which harbor bacteria and provide a perfect breeding ground. Similar pockets of skin can also form in people who gain large amounts of weight rapidly. For others, constant thumb-sucking and nail-biting or even chewing on pens can keep the area just outside of the mouth moist, again providing a breeding ground for the bacteria. Unfortunately, once the bacteria has taken hold, it can be very difficult to eradicate and many suffers who have chapped lips corners have the condition on and off for months at a time.

If you would like to know how to heal chapped lips corners, there are a number of self-help steps you can take which may help.

If your angular cheilitis is caused by poorly fitting dentures, you should get these corrected as soon as possible. It will also help if you keep your new dentures and mouth scrupulously clean by using a medicated mouthwash and soaking your dentures overnight in an antiseptic solution, ensuring they are properly rinsed before use.

For fast relief from the pain of chapped lips corners, you can use some petroleum jelly or unscented lip balm. Although this will not help the healing process, it will prevent further cracking and have a soothing effect.

For nail-biters and thumb-suckers and those who chew on pens, you can try painting the offending objects with the bitter tasting liquid which discourage nail-biting. These are completely safe and can help break the habit.

For those who feel the problem is due to weight gain, you should take steps to lose the excess and maintain your ideal weight.

There is a very simple, speedy way to cure angular cheilitis which promises immediate relief and that you will be completely free of this condition overnight. It is available for immediate download and works for everyone.

The Importance Of Board Certification In Cosmetic Surgery

Board certified plastic surgeon. Those are the words you must see if contemplating any cosmetic surgery procedure. You might ask yourself “Does that really matter?”. The answer is an emphatic yes.

The number of reports about ‘botched’ plastic surgery has skyrocketed recently. A careful inspection shows that most of these so awful results where not performed by real plastic surgeons. Most of the surgeries reported in the media are performed by licensed physicians, but not board certified plastic surgeons. What’s the difference?

To become a board certified requires completing an approved medical school. Then there are a few options. Older plastic surgeons used to complete a 5 year general surgery residency followed by 2 years of plastic residency and sometimes an additional fellowship. (That was my path.) Another options is to complete a combined program with 3 years of general surgery and 3 years of plastic surgery. An additional path is to complete an ENT, Orthopedic, or oral surgery residency and then complete plastic surgery.

You can see that whatever path is chosen, the training is extensive. General patient care is learned first, then the fine points of cosmetic and reconstructive care. It is an extensive training program.

Lets look at some of the recent news posts about botched plastic surgery:

Nip/Tuck Nightmare: The Dangerous New World of Cosmetic Surgery posted on Fox News
Case of ‘uniboob’ a startling reminder to pick plastic surgeon with care posted on MSNBC
Lack of training can be deadly in cosmetic surgery posted on USA Today
British woman dies after botched butt ‘enhancement’ in a hotel also posted on USA Today
Non-surgical cosmetic options also have risks was another USA Today post
Each of these news articles are worth reviewing. They are scary and the should give you pause. Is your surgeon certified? In plastic surgery?

One more thing I want you to see. Watch this very short video, put out by the ASPS. The video is on the main page and is entitled “Do Your Homework”.

So please, do your homework. Make sure your surgeon is board certified in plastic surgery. Make sure your surgeon is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, so you know they adhere to ethical principles and lifetime learning goals. Make sure not to skip this step or you could end up on one of the ‘awful plastic surgery’ websites. I’m sure that is not the way you want people to see you.

How Long Can You Really Keep Your Make Up

I have a friend who rarely wears make up, but wanted to doll herself up to attend a wedding. Within minutes of starting to apply her foundation, she was dismayed to discover it smelled terrible and was forced to scrub it off. Her make up, had obviously gone bad.

How long can you really keep your make up before it turns bad and becomes a health hazard? Most make up does not require expiry dates or manufactured dates which makes it difficult to determine how old it is, even when you have just purchased it. However, most make up will not lose its freshness until after that package has been opened.

Water based liquid foundation will last about a year, whereas oil based foundations can remain for about a year and a half. However, if the bottle is opened necked, rather than a pump or squeeze tube, the time is cut in half. Tilting the bottle against your fingers introduces oil, contaminants and bacteria to your foundation, reducing the lifespan.

Pencil eyeliners are good for about two years, as long as you sharpen them regularly. Liquid eyeliners, on the other hand are much more susceptible to bacteria, and should be tossed out about three months after opening. Mascara is another easy target for contamination much like the liquid eyeliner, and should only be kept for three months.

Molded lipsticks have a good long life of up to two years in fact. Glosses and liquid lip colours, however, should not be kept more than three months.

Powdered make up, such as blush, eyeshadow and powder foundation has the longest shelf life of all cosmetics. You can keep these products for up to three years, as long as they are properly stored in a closed case. If the case is left open, however or the lid breaks, your make up is subject to dust, dirt and contaminants and could pose a health risk.

While these guidelines are helpful, a little common sense should prevail. Brushes and sponges should be washed at least once a week in mild, soapy water. Make up wedges should be disposed of after a week or two at most. If any of your make up has a funny odour or looks odd, throw it out. Also, if you have been wearing make up during a contagious illness, such as influenza, you’ve probably contaminated it and you should just start fresh.

Healing Chapped Lips And Cheilitis

Chapped lips look dryed out, scaled and might even appear cracked. They can also be sensitive, swollen and red when the chapping is severe.

All ages are prone to getting chapped lips and there are many things that can cause them. Running a high fever, cold climate, dehydration, medications (such as acne meds), vitamin deficiencies, sleep apnea (which causes you to breathe through your mouth) and allergic reactions to skin care products.

Lip licking (cheilitis) is habit forming and can cause the lips to be chapped constantly. Kids from the ages of seven to fifteen are the most likely victims of cheilitis. A pink band that encircles the mouth is a dead giveaway to this condition.

Certain drugs can cause cheilitis. Lithium, chemotherapy agents and retinoids are known to cause lip licking. The best ways to get rid of cheilitis is to stop licking the lips and get off of the drug which is causing it. There is no medication on the market that will help to stop cheilitis so it simply requires a change in habit or routine. Using a natural cream or oil on the lips is also beneficial because it will make them less irritated and painful.

There are quite a few herbal products available that can help to get rid of your chapped lips. Calc Flour, which is a biochemic tissue salt, is used specifically for healing skin that is chapped or cracked open. Calendula officinalis is used for all sorts of skin problems and helps wounds to heal more quickly. Chamomile is useful for making your chapped lips less painful and irritated. None of the above herbs are addictive or have side effects. A vitamin E cream is also wise to use on a consistent basis. It gives your skin some of the vitamins it needs to stay healthy.

Hundreds of years ago people used fat from geese or ducks to help their chapped lips heal. Next time you make one of these save the fat in your refrigerator for the next time one of your family members needs it. Shea butter, coconut oil and olive oil are also great for easing lip chapping.

A good rule of thumb is that if you cannot eat it then do not use it on your lips or skin. Lipsticks, balms and gels that have any sort of petroleum or alcohol in it should be avoided like the plague. In fact, they will make your chapped lips even more unbearable.

Also, be careful what you eat. Foods that are high in salt, spicy (hot) or hot should be saved for after your lips heal up. Watch going outside in dry, cold or windy weather. If you have to leave the house then coat your lips with natural oils to protect them from the weather.
